When every member of our community makes a donation, we can visibly demonstrate our belief in the mission of Virginia Beach Friends School and our desire to support the school and its educational initiatives. During capital campaigns, when we are working to raise large amounts of money, foundations and corporations often examine levels of participation for the Annual Fund and past campaigns to determine whether they will support our requests for funding. When we achieve a high level of participation from alumni, parents, grandparents faculty, staff, School Committee and friends, we stand a better chance of receiving grants and significant gifts from the foundations and corporations that we solicit.
While giving is voluntary, we encourage all families, alumni, and friends of the school to participate in any way they are able. We are grateful to the countless individuals throughout the history of Friends School for the care and commitment they have given to the school. We hope that others will continue with this tradition.
The educational programs at Virginia Beach Friends School are characterized by rigorous academic challenge balanced with an emphasis on personal responsibility, leadership development, opportunities for creative expression, social awareness and spiritual growth. We strive to create an environment that celebrates each individual’s unique gifts in a safe and nurturing atmosphere, while challenging students to exceed themselves, to try new things and to take risks in the pursuit of knowledge.
Independent schools, such as Virginia Beach Friends School, are non-profit, not government supported and self-governing. As such they must rely on more than tuition alone to provide their students with an exceptional education. Because they anticipate sources of revenue through annual giving campaigns, grants, endowments, interest on investments, and major gifts, independent schools budget for a better education than tuition alone can provide.
In choosing an independent school for your child’s education, one of the commitments you make is financial, both in terms of paying tuition and voluntary support. Without gifts of time and money, independent schools could not be the vibrant communities that we choose for our children’s education.
